Summer break is just about here for many! If you're already aching to get the summer fun started, we feel you! We are too! While many of us have been doing our absolute best to stay home and practice social distancing, we're all feeling the need to get outside and explore. So this week, The Lodges at Rolla thought it would be a great idea to share with you the many outdoor wonders that are just a short drive from Rolla (some are right here IN Rolla!) and are SOOOOOO worth checking out!
This half-scale replica of Stonehenge was created using water-jet technology at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Historic Main Street Footbridge
305 W. 3rd St., Rolla, Mo
The historic wooden footbridge over the BNSF Railway once carried motor vehicle traffic on Main Street. The Southwest Branch of the Pacific Railroad (now BNSF) reached Rolla in December 1860 and played an important role in the Civil War.
The Mark Twain National Forest
401 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO 65401
The beautiful Ozarks serve as the setting for a wide variety of activities. This national park covers more than 1.5-million acres. It includes: 19 natural areas; 14 floatable streams; 16 lakes; trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and backpacking; more than 100 miles of trails for mountain bike, ATV and motorcycles; caves; wilderness areas.
Fugitive Beach

The Fugitive Beach offers over an acre of water, sand beach, 60″ water slide, pavilions and more. Located 8 miles South of Rolla on Hwy 72, the Fugitive Beach is a family friendly summer destination. They are open May – September from 10:00-6:00. Also available on site is the Fugitive Beach Bar & Grill.
FLW N, Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473
Miller Cave is part of a cave complex in the bluffs above the Big Piney River, along the southern boundary of Ft. Leonard Wood. One of the largest caves on Fort Leonard Wood, it is the only one open to the public. This cave contains archaeological evidence of human occupancy from 7,000 B.C. to A.D. 1,400. Artifacts from this cave are displayed in the Smithsonian Institution, in Washington D.C.
Montauk State Park

The seven springs within Montauk State Park form the headwaters of the Current River. Regular stocking of rainbow trout provides excellent fishing. Trout fishing season runs from March 1-Oct. 31. The park, 21 miles southwest of Salem, features an old gristmill, campgrounds, cabins, a fourplex, a motel, a dining lodge, hiking and picnicking.

Onondaga Cave, a National Natural Landmark within Onondaga Cave State Park, is recognized as one of the most spectacular caves in the nation because of the quality of its formations. The tours lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes, covering about one mile of passageways. The cave's temperature is 57ºF (13ºC) year-round.
