Dorm v. Apartment: Which Should You Choose?

It's that time again where the fall semester approaches! That leaves you with a very important choice- dorm life or apartment living? Both have their own perks, but which is right for you?

In this week's blog, we intend to discuss some of the differences between dorms and apartments and how you can choose which one to go with this fall semester!

Dorm v. Apartment: Location

Dorms are right on campus, which can definitely be handy for those early morning classes, but don't feel like you have to settle for a dorm just because they are on campus. Apartments can also be located incredibly close to campus, which can provide you with some much needed space from campus life, while still proving to be convenient for all your traveling needs.

Dorm v. Apartment: Rules

When it comes to rules and regulations, your dorm is going to be much more subject to stricter rules- including curfews and alcohol bans. When you choose to live at a premium apartment complex, you'll find that you are going to have significantly more freedom in relation to your dorm. Granted, that isn't to say that you won't have rules or regulations, just that you are given a more independent-living arrangement.

Dorm v. Apartment: Privacy

It probably comes as no surprise that apartments are significantly more private than dorms. Especially when you stay at an apartment complex that offers multiple room choices, from 1-bedrooms, all the way up to 4-bedrooms in some premium apartments!

When you live in a dorm, you can expect a minimum of one roommate, but could potentially have up to three or four, depending on the style of your dorm room.

Dorm v. Apartment: Cost

In the short-term dorms may seem more cost-efficient, in that the price is included on your college statement, meaning you won't have to worry about an upfront cost; however, it is important to note that despite not having to pay short-term, there is a hefty price associated with your dorm that can come to hurt your wallet later down the line.

When staying in an apartment, the prices are typically cheaper, and some apartment complexes include furnished apartments, such as some of the apartments at the Lodges at Rolla!

Overall, you have to make the best decision for you at your current situation, but we definitely don't want you to go into the semester feeling like you only have the singular option of living in a dorm! If you are looking for an apartment complex that is close to campus, has the best amenities, and is easy on your bank account, then you need the best apartments in Rolla, MO- the Lodges at Rolla!
